Bad Boys, Bad Boys, What’s YouTube Gonna Do?

In October 2011, YouTube refused to take down a video at the request of a local U.S. government agency. YouTube’s refusal to remove a video depicting police violence raises questions about platforms’ responsibility as an archive of public interest content, and also the limits of their ability to challenge government takedown requests. This week, we’ll be talking about how companies handle government takedown requests, and how they communicate about them to the public.
